About Timur Turlov
Timur Turlov is the Founder and CEO of Freedom Holding Corp. (FRHC), a U.S.-registered and NASDAQ-listed company headquartered in Central Asia. With over 15 years of experience in various areas of the international securities industry, Mr. Turlov has played a pivotal role in shaping the financial landscapes of Kazakhstan and other international markets.
Timur Turlov's path in finance started early: at 16, while still a university student, he began trading as part of World Capital Investments. After completing his degree in economics and management, Turlov joined the brokerage division of a Russian bank, where he helped build out its infrastructure for trading on American stock exchanges. In 2008, at the age of 21, Timur Turlov founded Freedom Finance — an investment company created to give retail clients direct access to U.S. equity markets. That venture would go on to become Freedom Holding Corp.
Since 2013, he has successfully led Freedom Finance Kazakhstan, rapidly transforming it into the region’s top brokerage firm by offering access to global markets and promoting financial literacy. Under Mr. Turlov’s leadership, the company has reached new heights. In 2019, Freedom Holding Corp. achieved a major milestone by becoming listed on Nasdaq. This move underscored the company’s dedication to transparency and global expansion, attracting international investors and cementing its position as a leading global financial firm.
Today, the Freedom ecosystem extends well beyond brokerage. It includes Freedom Bank Kazakhstan for retail banking, Freedom Life and Freedom Insurance in the insurance segment, the Freedom Telecom mobile operator, the Freedom Pay e-payment service, and lifestyle platforms such as Arbuz.kz and Aviata. On the institutional side, Freedom Capital Markets — the group's U.S. investment banking arm, established following the 2020 acquisition of Prime Executions — supports companies going public on American exchanges, while Freedom Finance Europe continues expanding across 12 European countries.
Mr. Turlov is a member of YPO Kazakhstan (Young Presidents Organization), a global network connecting young business leaders and top executives. He also serves as President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation and sits on the executive committee of the Kazakhstan Football Federation. Additionally, Mr. Turlov is actively involved in the IQanat educational project.
Turlov's community initiatives also include Qalam, a multimedia historical and educational project dedicated to promoting Kazakh and Central Asian culture on the global stage. Freedom Holding Corp., under his leadership, additionally supports the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and a number of regional environmental programs.
In June 2026, Timur Turlov announced his candidacy for Deputy President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), building on his work as President of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation to bring greater digitalization and stability to the sport's global governance.
